Privacy Policy

Yabo Studio ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and share information in the mobile application Yabo : Learn German, distributed on Google Play and on the Apple App Store under the identifier com.yabo.learnlanguages.

Yabo is a German-learning app built around short video clips paired with synchronised transcripts. Almost everything the App knows about you stays on your own device. The short version: we run no ads, we collect no advertising identifier, and we never record audio.

1. Data Collection and Usage

• Sign-in: The App offers Sign in with Apple and Google Sign-In. When you sign in, the provider returns your email address and display name to the App. This is used on the device to identify the store account that holds your subscription, so your purchase can be recognised and restored. Yabo Studio does not operate a user-account database and does not keep a server-side profile for you.
• Learning data: Saved words, flashcards, spaced-repetition review state, game results and app settings are stored on your device only. They are not uploaded to Yabo Studio.
• Device backup: Because your learning data lives in the App's local storage, it is included in your device's own operating-system backup — iCloud Backup on iOS, Google Auto Backup on Android — if you have that enabled. Those backups sit in your own Apple or Google account, under their terms, and Yabo Studio has no access to them. You can exclude the App from backup in your device settings.
• Video playback: Every clip is hosted on YouTube and played through YouTube's official IFrame Player API inside a web view. YouTube and Google therefore receive the request for the video and the data that comes with it, such as your IP address, device and player information, and any YouTube cookies already on the device. See section 3.
• Purchases and subscriptions: We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements. Subscriptions are sold on both the Apple App Store and Google Play. Billing and payment data is handled exclusively by Apple or Google — we never see or store your card details.
• Usage and diagnostics: We collect pseudonymous usage and diagnostic data (screens opened, features used, crashes, device model, OS version, app version, language) via PostHog, to fix problems and improve the learning content.
• Push notifications: If you enable study reminders, we store a device notification token and a log of which notifications were opened, so reminders can be delivered and we can tell whether they are useful. These two records — device_tokens and notification_logs — are the only data Yabo Studio holds on a server. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.

2. Microphone and Audio

Yabo does not record audio. The App contains no recorder and no speech recognition. No audio is captured, stored or transmitted, to us or to anyone else.

The App only plays audio. Spoken words and sentences are produced either by your device's built-in text-to-speech engine, or by an optional higher-quality neural voice that you can choose to download and which then runs entirely on your device.

You may notice RECORD_AUDIO and MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS listed in the Android manifest. These are declared by the third-party audio playback library the App uses, not by Yabo. The App never requests or exercises them to capture sound.

3. Video Playback and YouTube

All video content in Yabo is hosted on YouTube and streamed through YouTube's official IFrame Player API inside a web view. Yabo Studio hosts no video and never downloads, stores, re-hosts or extracts audio from any video.

Watching a clip means your device contacts YouTube directly. YouTube and Google act as independent data controllers for that interaction and may process your IP address, device and player details, and cookies or similar identifiers already present in the web view, under the Google Privacy Policy. Your use of the video portion of the App is also subject to the YouTube Terms of Service. You can review and control the data Google holds for you at myaccount.google.com/privacy.

4. What We Do Not Do

• We do not show advertising. The App contains no ad SDK and no ad network.
• We do not collect or use an advertising identifier (no Android Advertising ID, no Apple IDFA), and the App does not present an App Tracking Transparency prompt.
• We do not record audio and do not use speech recognition.
• We do not collect precise location data.
• We do not store your learning progress on our servers.
• We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

5. Auto-Renewable Subscriptions

Yabo requires an active subscription. Subscriptions are offered through the Apple App Store and Google Play and managed via RevenueCat:

• Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
• The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is switched off at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
• Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the current period ends.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings.
• Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.

6. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of partners to handle specific app functions. Each processes data under its own privacy policy:

We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our legal rights.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your learning data stays on your device until you delete it in the App or uninstall the App. Uninstalling removes the local copy; any copy inside your own iCloud or Google device backup is removed according to your Apple or Google backup settings, which we do not control.

Your notification token is deleted when you turn off notifications or uninstall the App. To request deletion of your notification token and notification-open logs, or to ask what we hold, email [email protected]. We action deletion requests within 30 days. Subscription records held by Apple, Google or RevenueCat are retained under their own policies.

8. Security

Data in transit is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS, and credentials are held in the device's secure keystore. Keeping learning data on the device rather than on our servers limits what could be exposed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. GDPR and CCPA Compliance

We respect your data rights. Users in the EEA and California have the right to request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of their personal data, and may object to processing. Because most data never leaves your device, much of it is already in your hands. Contact [email protected] to exercise these rights. We do not sell personal information.

10. Children's Privacy

Our services are intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. Video content is served by YouTube and is subject to YouTube's own content policies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes are posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
